Hay Calor! 5 Ways to Beat the Heat !

Though climates vary dramatically throughout Mexico, there are many places south of the border that warrant an article on how to beat the blazing summer heat. The top five ways to put out the blaze are as follows:

1. Buy a hammock (una hamaca). Perfect for a mid-day siesta and oh so comfortable on a hot summer evening. They let air flow freely, unlike a humid mattress which can stifle body temperatures.

2. Dress like the locals... in light colored loose fitting clothing with Panama hats for the men and light shawls for the women.

3. Buy or rent a home that has high ceilings with fans, limestone walls, tiled floors and a central patio. These homes are typical in Mexico and offer an oasis from the outside heat.

4. Many homes in Mexico don't have air conditioning and if you are residing in one of those homes, do as the locals do on the most sweltering of days and find solace in air conditioned movie theatres and shopping centres.

5. Walk slowly along the shady side of the street and drink lots of water.
